The story of HTML 5

Development work on HTML continued until the year 2004 till the group members became disturbed with the new direction the consortium was taking with regards to the technology. The group felt that W3C (the World Wide Web Consortium) was not paying attention to real world development of HTML and was focusing more on XHTML and XML.

A new team was thus formed which was known as WHATWG. It is the abbreviation for Web Hypertext Application Technology Working Group. This team was devoted to help the web to evolve. A new specification known as HTML 5 took shape. It is the new version of HTML 4 and XHTML 1 combined. It focuses on needs of the developer of web applications.
